Stephen Hartley Joins SmithBucklin as Executive Director of the National Association Medical Staff Services
CHICAGO - December 15, 2005 – SmithBucklin, the world's largest association management company, announced today that Stephen Hartley has joined the company as Executive Director of the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS). In his new role, Hartley will work out of SmithBucklin's Washington, DC, office to manage all aspects of NAMSS' operations, lead the SmithBucklin team and assume responsibility for meeting the strategic goals determined by NAMSS' leadership. Established in 1977, NAMSS is recognized as the preeminent international organization for the career development of medical staff services and provider credentialing specialists in the health care industry.
"Given his strong nonprofit experience, particularly in the health care association arena, Stephen will be a great addition to the SmithBucklin team," said Michael Olson, SmithBucklin's executive vice president. "His leadership talents will contribute greatly to NAMSS' continued success."
Hartley began his career with the American Cancer Society and has directed national field operations for the Arthritis Foundation, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the American Diabetes Association. Most recently, he served as field director for Safe Kids Worldwide, an organization dedicated to the prevention of unintentional injuries. While there, he helped more than 600 local coalitions and chapters comply with performance standards. He also developed a governance model that created effective partnerships with state coalitions and ensured operational decisions could be made closer to the communities they served. Hartley received a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Frostburg University.
