Ruffin Earns Certified Association Executive Credential

Washington, DC – The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) has announced that John A. Ruffin, President and CEO of AMR Management Services (AMR), has earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential, which is the highest professional credential in the association industry. Less than five percent of all association professionals have earned the CAE, and only 3,300 association professionals currently hold the CAE credential, which was first awarded in 1961.

To be designated as a Certified Association Executive, an applicant must possess a minimum of three years experience in nonprofit organization management, complete a minimum of 75 hours of specialized professional development, pass a stringent examination in association management, and pledge to uphold a code of ethics. To maintain the certification, individuals must undertake ongoing professional development and activities in association and nonprofit management.

ASAE is an individual membership organization made up of nearly 23,000 association executives and industry partners representing nearly 12,000 organizations. Its members manage leading trade associations, individual membership societies, and voluntary organizations across the United States and in 50 countries around the globe.

Ruffin, who has served as president of three associations, currently serves as the president of International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC). He is also a member of ASAE, and serves on the new ASAE Key Association Management Company Committee. Ruffin earned a BS degree from Mississippi State University and an MBA from Mississippi College.

AMR, founded by Ruffin and his wife Shirley in 1997, provides association management, conference and event management, technology, and creative services for full-service and a la carte clients, which include both non-profit organizations and for-profit firms.

In 2002, AMR was among the first five association management companies awarded charter accreditation by the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC). To date, AMR stands as one of only 33 association management companies worldwide (out of more than 500) to earn this coveted IAAMC accreditation, based on compliance with quality and service standards approved by the American National Standards Institute.
